Sciatica is caused by compression of the sciatic nerve, which runs from your lower back to your legs. The most common cause of sciatica is a slipped disk in the spine. Many things can cause the disk to slip out of place—like sitting in one position too long, lifting something heavy without proper form or technique, or even having poor posture.
Other causes include tumors, inflammation or infection, and degenerative conditions such as arthritis.
